Our June Coffee Morning

Reflections from our June Coffee Morning on sexual health.

Our June Coffee Morning focused on sexual health, healthy relationships, reproductive health, and consent, drawing 9 attendees, including local Southwark residents and community partners.

Turning Point led an insightful session on accessing sexual health services, including STI testing, rapid HIV testing, and setting healthy boundaries. Key learnings included the importance of waiting at least two weeks after sexual contact before testing and communicating “no” as a respectful and confident boundary-setting tool.

The Southwark Wellbeing Hub also provided an overview of their services, and Omotola introduced the Southwark Multicultural Cookbook, a celebration of cultural diversity that encourages connection and wellbeing through food.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees emphasising the value of informal, informative conversations on often-overlooked topics.

Outcomes of the coffee morning

  • Increased understanding of how to access local sexual health services.
  • Broader awareness of healthy relationships and consent.
  • Enthusiastic response to collaboration ideas such as the Turning Point x BetKnowMore partnership and a proposed community supper club.

How our Coffee Mornings Support Southwark Health & Care Priorities

These coffee mornings directly contribute to Southwark’s health priorities by:

  • Reinforcing preventive health messages in a setting that feels safe, welcoming, and community-led.
  • Targeting underrepresented groups, using culturally sensitive engagement methods.
  • Facilitating inter-service collaboration, strengthening the local health and care ecosystem.
  • Providing insight and feedback from communities that are often unheard in traditional consultations.

We will keep you posted about the next one!
